Dr. Ulrike Rudolf, DVM
Veterinary medicine, surgery, dentistry and nutrition counseling have improved the quality of life of countless animals and their human guardians. I am eternally grateful to be a part of this field as it grows in new medical scientific discoveries and returns to a deep rooted compassion for animals.
After 15 years as a veterinarian I can honestly say that my enjoyment of coming to work and treating your animal companions has increased significantly. Due to this connection with my field I continuously seek education to improve the quality of care I give to my patients. Over the years I have added animal chiropractic and animal acupuncture to my general veterinary knowledge with great results. Most of my practice consists of traditional western medicine but on request and when current treatment is not enough adding these modalities may help significantly in keeping your animal companion feeling their best.
Communication and calm, gentle treatment is of utmost importance at Pacific Heights Veterinary Clinic. Our goal for every appointment is for your pet to feel as comfortable as possible at our office and for you to go home satisfied with the information and care you and your pet have received.
My educational background spans the Midwest (University of Wisconsin, Madison – Undergraduate Bachelor of Science) to the South West (University of Arizona – Graduate School) to the Caribbean (Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine – Doctor of Veterinary Medicine).
When I am not at Pacific Heights I am spending time with my two wonderful children and husband and pet menagerie of 2 dogs, 3 cats, a parrot, a guinea pig, and 7 chickens!. For personal time I love glass blowing and kayaking.
Dr. Kathleen Fuxa, DVM
Dr. Kathleen Fuxa started Highlands Bird & Pet Clinic in 1995. She enjoys treating cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, and many other exotic animals. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and Washington State Veterinary Medical Association.
Research for her master’s thesis brought her to Washington and Vancouver, B.C. in the early 1980’s. It was then that she fell in love with western Washington. She has lived in the Pacific northwest since 1993. She lived in Nebraska, Texas and Nevada while pursuing her studies and veterinary career. Dr. Fuxa has studied and worked at the University of Nebraska – Department of Life Sciences, Texas A&M University – Departments of Biology, Veterinary Pathology and Animal Science, and finally the University of Texas Medical Center in Galveston. Dr. Fuxa earned her degree in veterinary medicine from Texas A&M University in 1992.
She has always been interested in wildlife and exotic animals. She did graduate work in mammalogy and herpetology and was active in the vet student exotic and wildlife association. As a veterinary student, she completed a four week externship at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska.
Dr. Fuxa has had many animals over the years. Currently she is kept busy with Pearl, her blue-fronted Amazon parrot; Woodie – a HBC kitten with a fractured jaw brought in by a group of school children and their teacher. He is now a mellow old fellow. Most recently there’s Jezebel- a small maltese/terrier. This sweet little girl was brought to us as a 3 month pup with a badly broken and horribly infected front leg. She is now a happy tripod and a joy to all who meet her. And lastly the clinic birds: Gizmo the Quaker parrot, and the cockatiels Sid Vicious and Johnny Rotten!
From owning cats and dogs, to one very loud rooster and most every pet in between, I have developed a love and respect for all creatures. I got my first job at the age of 15 at a pet store, where I began my journey in pet husbandry. I developed a strong drive to learn everything I could about caring for and ensuring the health of every creature I was responsible for. After graduating high school, I attended Pima Medical Institute’s Veterinary Technician program and graduated with honors. I met Dr. Rudolf during my externship and have dedicated my career to helping her build a hospital and team who provides the upmost compassion and care for our patients and clients. I especially enjoy my leadership role within the hospital, interacting with our clients and participating with surgery and dental health.
When I am not at Pacific Heights, I enjoy spending time with my husband and pets, traveling, hiking and camping. I have two dogs and two cats. At Pacific Heights, you may occasionally see my dog Jamie or my black cat, Lorenzo.
